Change Password Screen |
Purpose |
The change password screen exists so that, at any time, the user currently logged into the registry may update his/her login password. The user invokes the changing of his/her password by clicking the 'change password' hyperlink located above the status bar.
Functionality |
For verification purposes, the change password screen displays the 'User' and 'User name'.
Updating Password
Click on the 'change password' hyperlink located above the status bar.
Type in a new password.
Confirm the spelling of the new password by carefully typing it a second time in the 'Confirm New Password' text box.
Click the Save button to update the database with the new password.
Passwords must meet curtain criteria:
Password Complexity
Passwords must be between 8 and 20 characters in length and must contain 3 of 4 criteria.
Special Characters (not alphabetic, numeric, no spaces allowed)
Alphabetic Characters
Numeric Characters
Combinations of upper and lower case letters
Password Recycling
The previous 24 passwords may not be used. If you enter one of the previous 24 this message appears:
“Validation Error: Password you are attempting to save has been used previously. Please re-enter a new password.”
Password Validation
If you do not enter VIIS every 60 days your account will move to ‘disabled’ status. Every 90 days your password will expire and it must be updated.
You have 10 opportunities to enter the correct password, user name, or organization code combination. After the tenth incorrect attempt you will be locked out of VIIS for 15 minutes.
This message will appear:
“You have entered the incorrect Organization Code or password. Please wait 15 minutes before reattempting. If you have forgotten your log-in information or cannot access your account for any reason, contact your VIIS administrator. If you are the administrator, please contact the help desk at 1-866-375-9795 or viis_helpdesk@vdh.virginia.gov."
User name and the new password cannot match.
The new password and confirmation password must be identical.
Results |
Successful Password Update
If the new password and its confirmation are entered identically, your password will be updated. The registry will give confirmation by displaying the following message: " Password Updated ".
Failed Password Update
If the new password and its confirmation are not identical, your password will not be updated. Instead, an error message will be displayed. If this occurs, other attempts to update your password may be attempted until you successfully change the password.
